PD Ports appoints Calje to key position

PD Ports has appointed Frans Calje to the new position of ‘key projects director’. Reporting to CEO David Robinson, Calje (a Dutch national) will assume responsibility for leading all the Northern Gateway Container Terminal (NGCT) project teams. He will be charged with overseeing the over £300m investment project in all future planning, construction and commercial aspects of this major new development at Teesport in north-east England. Daikin improves reefer control software

Container refrigeration machinery manufacturer Daikin has launched DTMS2, the second-generation version of its intelligent temperature management software. The Japan-based company, which now has over 100,000 of its LXE10E scroll compressor reefer machines operating in the field, says that the new software will provide the lowest power consumption unit on the market today. First Liebherr STS crane for Russia

Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd has finalised a contract to supply a new post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) container crane to the NUTEP container terminal in Novorossiysk in Russia, a joint venture between NCC and the DELO Group. Tesco to build import centre at Teesport

Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer, has signed an agreement with PD Ports to develop a 1.2m sq ft (110,562 sq m) import centre within Teesport on the UK’s north-east coast. Occupying a 66 acre (26.7 ha) brownfield site adjacent to the proposed Northern Gateway container terminal, the complex will be built to Tesco’s own design requirements. Salalah continues with expansion programme

The Port of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman is preparing for significant expansion of its capacity with investment in an additional four super post-Panamax gantry cranes for its two new 18 m deep berths. This new investment will increase the port’s annual throughput capacity to about 6m teu by mid-2009, an increase of more than 30% on current levels. Read More »
