Industry figures have told CM they are concerned about whether the global sulphur cap of 0.5% will be enforced once it is introduced.
The cap will be introduced either in 2020 or in 2025, depending on the results of a study which the IMO is currently undertaking.
Hapag-Lloyd’s director of environmental fleet management Wolfram Guntermann told CM: “Looking ahead to 2020 more challenges with regard to enforcement will evolve with the global cap in international waters.”
