Kalmar has announced plans to move its forklift truck production from Sweden to Poland.
Production will switch from the company’s site in Lidhult, Sweden to Kalmar’s current assembly operations centre in Stargard, Poland.
In a statement, the company said the gradual transfer would take around two years, affecting approximately 190 Swedish workers and creating around 200 new jobs in Poland.
Kalmar’s Dan Pettersson said: “We recognise that this is a difficult time for people in Lidhult. However, we must make sure that we continue to sustain our global leadership position also in the future.”
He continued to say that the move would bring “a more cost competitive production setup”.
In the town of Ljungby, a 40 km drive from Lidhult, Kalmar will build a new Business, Innovation and Technology centre focussing on digital business development, research and development, prototype production and testing of mobile equipment.
The company will also launch a digital business development programme in collaboration with Linneaus University in Southern Sweden.
The announcement follows a day after the company’s decision to reduce its staffing levels in Tampere, Finland.
