Taiwanese carrier Yang Ming Transport Corporation has appointed Evergreen’s former vice chairman Chih-Chien Hsieh as its new chairman.
Hsieh, who is also known as Bronson Hsieh, succeeded Frank Lu, who held the position of chairman at Yang Ming since 2003.
Hsieh left Evergreen in March 2016 amid a succession battle between the children of the company’s late chairman, Chang Yung-fa, who died in January this year.
Yang Ming’s new chairman, who started working in the shipping industry 40 years ago, was appointed after the company’s board of directors voted for him unanimously during a meeting in Taipei.
“Facing several business cycles, he [Hsieh] could always overcome all the obstacles during the recessions,” Yang Ming said in a statement. “Recognizing his solid working experiences and outstanding performance, the board of directors voted him unanimously for the chairmanship.”
According to a statement by Yang Ming, Hsieh spent 20 years working in the shipping industry in Europe and China.
Yang Ming is part of newly-formed “THE Alliance”, a group of carriers also featuring Hanjin, Hapag-Lloyd, ‘K’ Line, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) Line.
The new alliance is expected to start operations in April 2017 with an initial cooperation of five years.
