USA-based terminal operating software (TOS) provider Navis has launched the latest version of its N4 TOS.
According to the company, for the launch of N4 3.3, which is now on general availability, Navis improved its software development approach by leveraging an agile methodology.
The new software, which has frequent quality and delivery checkpoints built into the process, is expected to enhance terminal efficiency and productivity, with Navis reducing its release cycle to four months in order to be more responsive to the market’s needs and challenges.
The new features introduced include an enhanced application performance, which comprises core performance improvements in XPS to reduce the time needed to find a container to update or delete, and decking history insights reflecting all decking work instructions dispatched to fine tune parameters and increase yard utilisation.
Additional new features include rail operations support for terminals which use wide span gantry cranes serviced by straddle carriers and empty handlers, and a block impact minimiser which swaps empties from different yard blocks to optimise loading of empty containers to ships.
According to a company statement, the latter allows the distribution of empty workload across the blocks and results in higher yard and quay-side productivity by decreasing transfer zone congestion and reducing unproductive container moves.
With its latest release, Navis, part of Cargotec Corporation, also introduced N4 system administration and maintenance improvements to help IT teams in the administration, maintenance and support of the N4 systems.
Scott Holland, vice president of product management at Navis, said: “As the industry continues to evolve, with carriers adding larger vessels to their fleets and shippers demanding greater predictability and real-time insight into their cargo, it is critical that our customers are able to provide the most efficient terminal operations possible.
“Through implementing the agile methodology, we were able to further build on the capabilities and services we offer, and the release of N4 3.3 is the next step in delivering our clients the most innovative terminal software to address current and future industry needs.”
