The SEK200m (US$23m) project to expand Yilport Gävle Container Terminal has been approved by a unanimous municipal executive board in Gävle.
The cost covers the expansion and reinforcement of the recently built just east of the terminal.
The plan is to start construction works this autumn so that the quay will be ready for use in the summer of 2019.
The new 320-meter long quay is supposed to create the capacity for twice as many containers at the terminal.
Inger Källgren Sawela, the mayor of Gävle, told the Swedish newspaper Arbetarbladet: ” We do it to create growth and jobs, Yilport will invest in Cranes.
” Gävle will become the largest container port in the Baltic Sea,” she added.
