SH Pratt Group is to take a lease on a temperature-controlled distribution facility at DP World London Gateway, with construction to begin in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The fruit importer’s new business, Halo, will be located at the 108,555sq ft multi-chambered warehouse, handling multi-temperature products, before distributing them to the UK consumer market.
Located within the West Zone of the terminal’s logistics park, the facility will feature multiple temperature options, from frozen to ambient – enabling flexible multi-use – and IT systems to aid product monitoring.
Enterprise resource planning software (ERP) will be available, enabling customers to track the progress of their goods through a portal.
In the future, some port health inspections may take place within the Halo facility, which will become operational between mid-late 2018.
David Bateman, managing director, SH Pratts Group, said that the terminal’s positioning near the M25 motorway will enable the company to “pass on tangible savings to customers and also reduce demurrage by offering a rapid turnaround”.
Chris Lewis, CEO at DP World London Gateway, said: “Sustainability is a growing concern to British shoppers, and by locating here SH Pratt Group will be able to deliver on their commitments to the environment while also ensuring consumers get the freshest produce.”
