TCTenerife receives first transhipment calls

Transhipment operations have begun at Terminal de Contenedores de Tenerife (TCTenerife), with container vessels of 300 m in length calling at Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the first time.

The first transhipment calls came from the Maersk Guayaquil and the Maersk Genoa.

The former, which has a capacity of 10,100 teu and a length of 337 m, undertook an operation of 1,403 boxes in 18 hours with a net productivity of more than 31 crane moves per hour (mph).

Meanwhile, the Maersk Genoa performed a similar operation with 1,800 container moves.

TCTenerife is a subisidiary of OHL, which has port terminal facilties in Alicante and Valparaiso.

It has a 700 m berth, a draught of 16m, six super post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 580 reefer plugs, allowing for an annual capacity of 600,000 teu.

It already receives calls from cabotage lines between the Canary Islands and the Spanish mainland.
