Anti-Danish Sentiment hits Container Shipping

Anti-Danish Sentiment hits Container Shipping

Maersk is the world’s largest container line, and the decision to launch quietly was a direct result of anti-Danish feeling in the Islamic world. In a week which witnessed mass rallies all over Europe, particularly aimed at Danish embassies, the decision was perhaps not so surprising. Businesses have been hit hard as Muslims have been boycotting Danish goods, with one supermarket announcing last week that it had laid off its staff in the face of zero demand for its goods in the Middle east. The shipping industry has not been directly targeted by the protesters but Maersk wanted, understandably, to play it safe.
