Cargoes started arriving at the Chittagong port, which handles 80% of the country’s export trade, only nine hours after the scheduled strike, which had originally been due to last two days.
Imports and exports were disrupted as workers stopped to protest against routine harassment from the police for bribes. Federation Leader Haji Raja Meah confirmed that they had withdrawn strike action after the authorities agreed to heed their complaints.
The strike had affected thousands of bus passengers aswell as ships coming into the port, as the strike had involved truckers who had caused congestion on the roads nearby.
