Port President and CEO Gary LeGrange announced the news during his annual state of the port address. Although only 70% of upriver facilities are currently operational the port has 30 general cargo ships scheduled to call at the port during this week. This is in comparison to the post-hurricane 20 ships per week, and represents a marked improvement.
The volume is back to usual but the value of trade is still down by 20%, due to a lack of confidence in the port after Katrina. The port suffered a colossal US$84m from the hurricane.
