JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG has voluntarily agreed to apply a regulation in German law on acceptance of tenders, under which the award may only be made after fourteen days from the time when information was given to the unsuccessful bidders. The tender cannot therefore be awarded before 28 March.
“We are highly delighted at this decision”, said Emanuel Schiffer, Chairman of the EUROGATE Group Management Board, “It means our efforts of many years to build the German deep-water container port have come considerably nearer their final goal. EUROGATE is more convinced than ever that a container terminal in Wilhelmshaven is necessary, and that it will be successful. Growth in container volumes at the German seaports have considerably exceeded forecasts over the past few years. Moreover the shipping lines are sending larger and larger ships to the European seaports. If today a container ship has an average cargo capacity of 8,000 TEUs, tomorrow it will be 12,000 TEUs.”
In accordance with the requirements of tender, EUROGATE’s bid covers an operating plan, a marketing plan, a design for hinterland and feeder links, and a plan to guarantee secondary services. A team of specialised EUROGATE staff has spent some months preparing these proposals and drawing them together in a comprehensive bid.
