The reasoning for a new gate being built was to improve operations, customer service levels and security at the MICT. Security features are also enhances with digital camera’s and support lighting. Since March 26th all export boxes passing through have been weighed. There are four lanes of weigh-bridges that take up to 100-tons capacity each.
The purpose the new gate plays besides increasing efficiency is also to better gauge and handle traffic during peak hours. By weighing all boxes the safety of the cargo is assured and helps with stacking planning.
Access is via two roads designed for trucks that run through the gate, the export and import roads. Both are located at the MICT’s truck holding area and access is through the east access road, as shown in the diagram.
