Husky is owned by ITS (International Transportation Service Inc), which in turn is 100% owned by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (‘K’ Line) of Japan. The expansion gives it 93 acres (42 ha) of yard capacity and two berths of 1,500 ft and 1,200 ft, along with four post-Panamax gantry cranes and three top lifters. It also plans to introduce a new terminal management system that has already been used to improve efficiency at the ITS terminal at Long Beach, California.
The improvements give Husky the capacity to handle the 5,500 teu vessels that ‘K’ Line plans to introduce on its PNW service this summer, upgrading from the 4,000 teu vessels it currently operates.
