The NCIP is planned for a 600-acre site on the west bank of the river, about 9.5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Conceptual plans envision a major international port terminal that would put North Carolina among the major US ports. The facility would have a minimum annual capacity of 1.5m teu, 4,000 ft of berthing space and an on-site industrial park for distribution centres and related developments.
CH2M Hill is a world leader in programme and construction management, port and maritime design and planning and design-build construction projects, including heavy transportation. The firm will be the prime consultant on the NCIP project, leading a team of companies with responsibility for specialist fields of expertise.
“This team will focus on project management, planning and design of port and intermodal facilities, environmental issues, public outreach and overall support for the project,” said Tom Eagar, CEO of the NC State Ports Authority.
