The ‘declaration in favour of the development of port activity’ is the first to be signed by all five unions at the port, whose members range from management staff to manual workers. It commits all parties to creating conditions for traffic growth – notably by enhancing the port’s reliability and by giving priority to dialogue and negotiation in the event of any problems.
It is one of six new agreements resolving issues such as recruitment and promotion, work organisation and bonus payments, which last October provoked strike action at the port. The agreements also clear the way for constructive discussions on the Fos 2XL container terminal, the GDF2 methane terminal and the public ore terminal – all key development projects in the port’s strategy to reduce its dependence on oil trades.
