FICT, a joint venture between PSA China and Fuzhou Port Group, deployed four quay cranes for the operations on the 300 m vessel, with a total of 1,608 teu of containers moved during its short visit.
Currently FICT has a quay length of 505 m and has recently added two post-Panamax quay cranes and five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, bringing its equipment fleet to a total of five quay cranes and 12 RTGs. Two additional berths will go into operation in the second quarter of 2007, bringing the terminal’s total quay length to 1,603 m and increasing its annual handling capacity to 1.2m teu.
“FICT is the gateway to Southeast China and since our inception in 2003 we have worked closely with our shipping line partners to lower the logistics costs for our customers in Fujian province,” says Chan Peng Hong, FICT’s general manager. “With larger container vessels coming on stream, our excellent deepwater berths and high productivity will ensure that we are able to meet the growing service demands of our customers and partners.”
