Christopher Storer, Southeast Asia regional operations manager for CMA CGM, praised the efficiency of Westports’ operation. “The berth’s productivity of 121 moves per hour achieved during the operations on Medea was the result of the efficiency and professionalism of all involved. This productivity was even more remarkable as 95% of the moves on this vessel were loading moves.”
In fact, Westports is among the top five ports in the world for productivity. It set a record of 421 crane moves per hour in February and improved on this a month later, when it achieved 452 moves in a single hour of operations, using an eight-crane deployment.
Over the past decade, Westports has grown rapidly to become one of the leading ports in the region. The facility covers 480 ha (1,186 acres) at Pulau Indah on the west coast of Malaysia. Operated by Kelang Multi Terminal Sdn BHd, it accounts for one half of Port Klang’s area. It has a quayline of more than 3km and operates nine container berths, capable of accommodating five mother vessels and three feeder vessels.
