According to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz, the country’s location at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East offers great trade and investment opportunities, including for transit trade. With two seaports already functioning, and Gwadar Deep Sea Port due for completion by the end of this year, Pakistan is positioning itself as a major transit trade corridor for the region.
The project, which will be completed in three phases, will have an overall capacity of 1.15m teu, expanding the Port’s total capacity to about 1.75m teu. DP World has also invested in the port’s first container terminal, which has been converted from a BOOT (build, own operate, transfer) basis to BOT.
