In Gothenburg’s operation, the SECU boxes are 3.6 m wide and the load to be transported weighs approximately 95 tonnes. The MAFI tractors are equipped with the latest Cummins QSM 11 engine and HD axles from Kessler, and have an offset cabin to allow drivers visibility along the side of the boxes when operating the unit. The cab has a specially designed swivel-seat console, and the port operator has installed monitors and radios for communication.
Gothenburg reports that feedback from drivers about the handling of the big tractors has been excellent. Equally, it says, workshop staff are enthused about the units’ maintenance record. Lübeck’s new MT 45s are due for delivery before the end of the year, and the German port has taken an option on a third unit.
