Overall cargo throughput at the French port in the first eight months of 2006 amounted to 65.8 Mt, boosted by a strong performance of 8.6 Mt in August, the busiest month to date. Oil was by far the biggest single item, accounting for 41.9 Mt. General cargo, including containers, amounted to 10.9 Mt.

July saw an all-time monthly record for container throughput at Marseilles-Fos, with volumes of 85,000 teu and 843,000 tonnes, according to provisional figures. These figures were higher by 5% and 12% respectively compared with July 2005.
