Samskip has three main business units: the Iceland and Faeroe Islands Service, Multimodal Container Logistics and Worldwide Reefer Logistics and International Forwarding. The company has expanded internationally, and is now active in Asia and the Americas as well as in Europe. Its reefer logistics business has opened offices in China, Vietnam and South Korea, as well as two offices in Brazil, as it broadens its cold chain logistics activities to include the transportation of fresh fruit and vegetables.
In Europe it has grown both organically and through acquisition. Iceland, Scandinavia and the Netherlands are the main hubs for its temperature-controlled distribution business, and it operates container services throughout northern Europe. Its multimodal container business, which is centred on Rotterdam, has been created by bringing together the best of Samskip, Geest North Sea Line and Seawheel.
“We want to shape a strong ambitious company, a leader in the global transport market, yet one that maintains the close personal relationships that we know our customers appreciate,” said Michael F Hassing, Samskip’s CEO.
