The REFCON system monitors refrigerated containers onboard on a continual basis. It is also connected to the main alarm system, providing information on reefer power consumption and alerts for special high-value containers.
The Emma Maersk, built by the Odense Steel Shipyard in Denmark, is 397 m long and 56 m wide. It is able to carry 11,000 teu of containers and has 1,000 plugs for reefers. The vessel will go into service on European–Far East routes.
