The Deltaport Third Berth Project at Roberts Bank in Delta, BC is part of a broader VPA initiative to expand container handling capacity at the Port of Vancouver. Vancouver, Canada’s flagship port, currently handles over C$43bn worth of goods with more than 90 trading economies annually. Port activities generate 69,200 jobs and C$4bn in GDP.
The province’s Environmental Assessment Office gave its consent for the proposed berth after carrying out a harmonised review that involved federal review agencies, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Environment Canada, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and consultation with the public.
It was satisfied that the VPA had adequately addressed the environmental impact of the project, noting it had made over 150 separate commitments related to the local environment.
