The awards were announced during the Association’s 2006 Summit Meeting, held on October 12, 2006 in the port city of Ningbo. Its nationwide assessment covered all of China’s major container terminals. XICT is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports (HDP) and Xiamen Haicang Port Company, and is situated in Xiamen’s Haicang economic development zone.
XICT won the productivity award on account of its average quay crane rate of 30 moves per hour and an average vessel operation rate of 100.5 moves per hour throughout 2005. The award for potential was in view of its rapid throughput growth over the past three years. The ‘Best Container Terminal’ award was based on factors such as cost efficiency, quay crane productivity, vessel operation rate, average handling capacity per metre of quay length, and safety and security performance.
Raymond Chan, XICT’s general manager, said: “[The awards] demonstrate the recognition of the industry of our continuous efforts in enhancing service productivity and management effectiveness. They are also a great motivation to all our staff for making further contributions to Xiamen Port.”
