Work under way on new Mobile terminal

Mobile Container Terminal LLC is an 80-20 joint venture between APM Terminals North America, a subsidiary of Maersk Inc, and Terminal Link, a subsidiary of CMA CGM. APM Terminals will manage and operate the terminal.

The Port Authority has been building key infrastructure since receiving permits in early 2005. Land reclamation and site stabilisation work has placed over 2.3m cubic yards of sand fill material on-site, together with more than 4.3m ft of drains. Over 600 ft of dock is already complete, apart from rails and equipment, and the remainder of the 2,000 ft dock will be completed by the end of August 2007.

“We’ve held this on schedule and we’re looking forward to opening this and other port expansion projects in 2007 and 2008 to serve growing cargo volumes in the port,” said Port Authority director and CEO James Lyons.
