The help of a number of partners was enlisted in the development of the product, including the Port of Cartagena in Colombia. Anthony Johnson of Flexsim explained: “Several end-user clients who used our general-purpose simulator wanted to have a simulation tool specifically designed to model their unique applications.
“We took the challenge and created a steering committee made up of engineers and managers from APM Terminals, the Port of Los Angeles, Moffat & Nichol, and the Port of Cartagena, who helped us design how the container terminal simulation should look and function.”
The result is a tool that enables users to simulate and test out their ideas for improving container flow prior to actually implementing them. Ports allows users to analyse the results of each simulation graphically through 3D animation, statistical reports and graphs which, says Flexsim, are ideal for use in presentations to colleagues or clients.
