The unit was the first of Gottwald’s Generation 5 series MHCs, launched in the spring, to go into service in Germany. To date Gottwald – based in Düsseldorf and this year celebrating its 100th anniversary – has received orders for more than 20 Generation 5 units.
C Steinweg operates a high-performance universal terminal on the Port of Hamburg’s Kamerunkai (Cameroon Quay), handling containers, project cargoes, coffee and cocoa, iron and steel and other metals, and offering a comprehensive choice of storage options. It decided to purchase the Gottwald MHC as part of a €3.5m expansion plan that is already under way. “The new MHC means we nearly double our capacity,” said Ulf Boll, the company’s managing director.
The G HMK 7608, which has a lifting capacity of 150 tonnes, will be used mainly for project cargo handling, such as special turbines and pressure tanks. It has eight axles and is extremely manoeuvrable, enabling it to be positioned precisely in relation to the vessel.
