75,000 up for Daikin

The milestone was marked by the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Hamburg Süd (and to other important customers) at the Intermodal 2006 Conference and Exhibition, held in Hamburg in December.

Daikin is now the second largest supplier of reefer machines to the global container industry. Since the launch of the LXE10E in 2001, it has sold units to more than 45 different customers worldwide. The company is the largest supplier of scroll compressor reefers, and predicts that scroll compressor technology will continue to gain ground over alternative systems in the years ahead.

Scroll compressor units currently account for around 55% of reefer sales globally, and Daikin expects that they will make up more than 50% of the world fleet by 2009, up from just 19% in 2004. To cater for this anticipated growth, the company has recently invested in its production facilities in Japan to increase its annual manufacturing capacity to around 30,000 units. Further expansions are expected over the next few years to boost capacity to 40,000 units a year.
