The REGEN system is Vycon’s emissions reduction and fuel-saving energy storage system for cranes, and has been trialled at the STS (Evergreen) Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles and at the ITS Terminal at Long Beach. LBCT has taken immediate delivery of two units, with four more to follow, bringing the total of REGEN systems in use at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach to eight by early 2007. The trials have also created interest among other port operators, and Vycon is currently in discussions with several potential customers in Asia and Europe.
“We pride ourselves on being the first to adopt new technologies for environmental improvements. We have tested several options but have been most impressed with the REGEN system,” commented Kevin Hayes, vice president of safety, security and maintenance and repair at LBCT.
