The Sharjah Port Authority and the ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, have decided to expand the terminal to cater for future growth, encouraged by ever increasing volumes in the Gulf region and the launch of new ships and services to the booming Sharjah and UAE markets.
SCT will purchase two new post-Panamax gantry cranes, together with landside handling equipment and trailers. Two new mobile harbour cranes have already been delivered and are now in operation. In addition, a new berth will be created at right angles to the current terminal, overall draught will be improved to 12.5 m and an extra storage area of 30,000 sq m will be created.
