Gwadar Port currently has a quay length of 602 m with 14.5 m of depth alongside, which can be increased to 16 m in the future. The current terminal is capable of handling both conventional and containerised cargo, and has significant room for expansion to cope with growth in demand. Aqeel Karim Dhedhi Group (Pakistan) will be PSA Gwadar’s local partner in the investment, with the terminal expected to be operational in the second quarter of this year.
Eddie Teh, group CEO of PSAI, said at the signing ceremony: “Gwadar is well located to contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth and to facilitate the flow of sea trade for Pakistan and landlocked Central Asia. It will be an important addition to PSA’s global network of deep-sea ports… The current trend towards larger mega ships is especially significant to Gwadar as shipping lines look for deeper harbours from which to hub and feed.”
