Two logistics and port development experts will be seconded by SSA Marine to execute the contract, which is effective March 1, 2007 and will run initially for a period of six months. SSA Marine and its affiliates operate more cargo terminals than any other company in the world, and it is the largest port operator in the hemisphere.
SSA also owns and operates one of Port Point Lisas’ main sister ports, Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in Panama. PLIPDECO has had a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MIT, one of the world’s 50 largest ports, since 2002. The MoU promotes business development and the sharing of technical training and information between the two ports.
Both ports have been three-time winners of the prestigious Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) Port of the Year Award, Manzanillo in 1999, 2000 and 2004 and PLIPDECO in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
