VICT announces further expansion

Vietnam International Container Terminals (VICT) plans to upgrade its Ho Chi Minh City facilities to enable the terminal to berth up to four container vessels at once. Big increases in 2006 volumes

With throughput figures finalised for 2006, many ports around the world have reported big increases in traffic and, in many cases, record container volumes. Total cargo traffic through the Port of Gothenburg, for instance, reached 40.7m tonnes, 10% higher than in 2005. Container traffic amounted to 820,000 teu, 4% up on 2005, while ro-ro traffic reached 644,000, an increase of 12%. Read More »

VIT agrees long-term deal with CSAV

Virginia International Terminals Inc (VIT), the operating company of the Virginia Port Authority (VPA), has signed a five-year contract with Chilean shipper Compania Sudamericana de Vapores (CSAV). This is the latest in a line of long-term agreements signed by the VPA, following a 10-year contract agreed with the New World Alliance in December and a string of others with major shipping lines since 2005. Gemini acquired by Fenway Partners

New York-based equity firm Fenway Partners has acquired a majority interest in Gemini Traffic Sales, a US-wide trucking company specialising in the transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive products. This is Fenway’s 17th acquisition in the transportation and logistics sector, and its first temperature-controlled trucking investment. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
