The first phase consists of 11 warehouses of 8,000 sq ft and 6,000 sq ft, and nearly all this space has already been taken by customers keen to take advantage of the facility’s location next to the well-established Sharjah ICD (SICD), which is linked with Khorfakkan and Sharjah Container Terminals. The site is also near major centres and developing industrial sites in the UAE, and away from major infrastructure bottlenecks.
“The opening of the SICD three years ago prompted large numbers of consignees and shippers to re-assess their transport needs and it soon became clear in conversations with them that many were also looking for more cost-effective and accessible locations for their warehousing activities,” said Peter Richards, Gulftainer director and general manager.
“I am delighted that the response has been very positive for the initial phase. We are now assessing the options for Phase 2.”
