The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) is to relocate its shipping and cargo inspection operations to Port Central 1, a new state-of-the-art office building, at the Port of Brisbane. Some 40 staff will relocate to the 600 sq m space from existing offices at the Port and at Eagle Farm by mid-2007.

New home for AQIS at Brisbane

According to AQIS, the move will allow faster response times and greater efficiency in meeting demand for services from the shipping and cargo industry. “The new accommodation means that we can respond quickly to our stakeholders, which is crucial given the rate of growth in international trade through the port,” said Rick Hawe, AQIS South Queensland regional manager.

Port Central 1, scheduled for completion by June 2007, is the first project in a new town centre development underway at the Port of Brisbane. The building incorporates a range of sustainable features aimed at conserving energy and resources.
