January’s total included a 16% rise to 57,000 teu at Fos, which handles the key east-west trades, while the balance represented a 6% increase on other trades via the Marseilles eastern harbour area.
In terms of tonnage, container throughput amounted to 808,000 tonnes, up 16%. The port’s general cargo total grew 14.9% to 1.37m tonnes, with the ro-ro, conventional and liquid bulk sectors all performing strongly. Oil and dry bulk volumes (especially steel), however, recorded significant declines to peg back the overall total.
