The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has signed a contract for first-phase construction of the Trans Pacific Container Service Corporation (TraPac) Terminal at Dames Point.

Construction begins at TraPac Terminal

The contractor is responsible for dredging the berthing area to 40 ft; building 2,400 linear ft of berth space; and paving, lighting and fencing the 130-acre cargo storage area. Construction is expected to begin within 30 days, and the terminal is due to open in late 2008.

TraPac, which is owned by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), expects that the terminal will handle 800,000 teu annually, or more than double JAXPORT’s current container throughput.
