Cargo throughput at the ports of the Duisport Group climbed to 49.7m tonnes in 2006, 4.7m tonnes more than in 2005, to post a growth rate of over 10%. Traffic carried by rail and by barge expanded twice as fast as the German average.

Throughput at Duisburg up over 10%

Container transfers were at a record level of 787,000 teu, up by 11%. Growth in the container segment was mainly supported by train services, whose traffic grew 19% to 430,000 teu. Volumes of iron and steel also hit a new record, up 9% to 5.3m tonnes.

“We work in growth markets, grow at above-average rates and win market shares for all modes of transport,” said Erich Staake, CEO of Duisburger Hafen AG.

In a separate development, Bosai Minerals Europe GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bosai Minerals Group Co, Ltd of Chongquing, China, has acquired a mineral processing facility in the Port of Duisburg.

“We have over 20 nationalities in the Port and Bosai Minerals Europe is now the first organisation from China to have set up its premises here. We are very proud of our new Chinese reference, ” commented Mr Staake.
