JSC Sea Port St Petersburg handled 11.8 million tonnes of cargo in 2006, comprising metals, coal, chemical, timber and containers. The terminal operator has worked with Kalmar for more than 30 years and, at present, relies on more than 80 Kalmar machines to perform day-to-day handling duties.
The latest forklift trucks on order will replace some older equipment and will be used for handling steel, aluminium products and containers. The remaining equipment will be engaged largely in handling the port’s growing number of containers.
Commenting on the latest orders, Esko Pystynen, managing director of Kalmar Russia, said: “The Port of St Petersburg is the largest port in Northwest Russia and a strategic gateway for the country’s trade with Western Europe. As such, it is an important market for Kalmar products and I am pleased to say that Kalmar’s machines have helped to power this thriving facility for many years.”
