Kuenz delivered a container gantry crane with a capacity of 40 tonnes, intended for use in bimodal container handling, to Duisburg in April 2006. In March it delivered another container gantry crane to the DUSS operating company, based at Duisburg’s PKV terminal extension. Not only did Kuenz deliver the crane, it also produced the installed spreader itself. The crane, with a capacity of 41 tonnes, has a track width of 41 m and a lifting height of 12.5 m, and operates on a 700 m track.
Duisburg is the largest European inland port and among the top 100 container ports in the world. Its total area, from the harbour basins at the mouth of the Ruhr and along the Rhine up to Duisburg-Rheinhausen, amounts to 10 sq km.
The logport logistics centre serves the 120,000 sq m Duisburg Intermodal Terminal (DIT), which is a trimodal commercial and transportation centre for waterways, railroad tracks and highways. duisport is also a strategic hinterland hub for other major North Sea ports, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp.
