Both awards were in the Industry Design Award category – one for the Triflex R light multi-axis energy chain, which is used for complex 3D movements, and the other for new P4 profile roller chain series.
The P4 roller chain can be deployed for distances of up to 800 m, but is also very quiet at speeds of up to 10 m/second. Its reduced levels of vibration achieve a significant reduction in drive power, according to Igus, making even greater lengths of travel and higher speeds possible. Additional sliding guide elements guide the upper run of the energy chain on the lower run, reducing the need for guide troughs.
The Triflex R light (like the bigger Triflex R, which is used with robots), is an easy-to-use, modular energy chain, which works using a ball-and-socket joint. Once locked in place, this forms an extremely smooth connection that combines movements in all axes and guarantees a high tensile strength, says Igus. Unlike some other products, the individual elements do not need to be connected to one another by steel ropes or spring elements, which are complicated to join together or to separate, especially on-site.
