DHT40 container cranes come of age

DHT40 cranes have two independent main hoists in the machinery house that can lift two 40 ft, or one 40 ft and two 20ft, or four 20-foot containers. The total capacity of both hoists ranges from 80 tonnes to 120 tonnes.

Productivity is improving as design limitations are addressed and as operators become familiar with the system. The dual hoist system has been through several design iterations, and the control system is undergoing improvements to facilitate crane operator comfort and productivity. Both hardware and software have improved significantly with each design iteration.

Following on from the success of the DHT40, ZPMC has recently built a number of dual hoist ‘triple forty’ cranes. On these models, one hoist lifts two tandem containers while the other lifts one.
