This is a repeat order, with Konecranes previously supplying equipment to Malta Freeport Terminals in 2006. The companies have also agreed on an option for an additional 10 RTGs. Malta Freeport Terminals, which is owned by CMA CGM, is currently increasing its capacity in response to growing container traffic. Old RTGs will be replaced with more productive and reliable cranes to speed up operations and minimise downtime.
“We are very satisfied with Konecranes’ previous deliveries. The company’s concept, which includes project management, fast delivery, reliable products and low downtime, works very well. In addition its professional service is of great importance to us,” said Uwe Malezki, general manager at Malta Freeport Terminals.
The eight-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and also have twin-lift capabilities. They are capable of stacking one-over-five containers high and six wide plus a truck lane. The reachstackers have a maximum lifting capacity of 45 tonnes and can stack containers five high. The masted lift truck will be used for stacking empty containers.
