The MSC Napoli was intentionally beached during storms off Branscombe in Devon, UK in January this year. The incident attracted worldwide media attention on account of the scale of the cargo recovery operation, which was made worse by unprecedented looting of beached cargo from the stricken vessel. The authorities decided to discharge the cargo from the stranded vessel and take it to the safe confines of Portland Harbour, Dorset.
Three months later, in order to continue the huge task of moving the vessel’s containers to a secure area, Eve Trakway was contracted to provide a 384 K-panel pad area at Portland Port to support 80-tonne reachstackers along with their loads, for a period of several weeks.
The coordination manager for the recovery project, acting on behalf of the P&I Insurance Club, said: “Due to the urgent nature of our operation we needed a pad area to be constructed as soon as possible. Over the forthcoming weeks we will be progressing the recovery operation intensely and we would like to extend our thanks to Eve Trakway for working with us to provide such an efficient access solution.”
