The agreement will see Ewals Cargo Care (which is headquartered in Venlo in the Netherlands) take over all Crossrail’s freight forwarding activities and related human resources, including its German subsidiary Crossrail AG. The Italian forwarding operations will be fully integrated into the Ewals Cargo Care branch office in Novara.
The deal leaves Crossrail free to concentrate on rail traction services on the Swiss transalpine corridors between Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The company will continue to act as an intermodal operator on the Duisburg–Domodossola route, though from September 1 will move the Italian end station from Domodossola to Novara. The frequency of trains will be increased from five to six per week each way, starting from October.
