D3T will have four half train-length platforms and a crane for water and track handling. The handling area will be operated by duisport. “All the stockholders would like to realise a close operational cooperation with the neighbouring DIT Duisburg Intermodal Terminal in order to be able to transfer to the numerous routes into the European hinterland,” said Erich Staake, CEO of Duisburger Hafen AG.
In addition, the nearby DUSS-Terminal in Duisburg-Ruhrort is connected to most European distribution routes and is also directly linked with the Ruhrort-logport-Shuttle operated by duisport. With growing cargo volumes and potential bottlenecks at sea ports, shippers are increasingly focusing on hinterland hubs for their European cargo distribution. A significant proportion of the volumes expected at the new terminal will be gateway traffic.
The strategic partnership between the shipping lines and duisport has grown over the years: NYK’s logistics operation was the first customer at logport and it is one of the duisport Group’s most important warehousing customers, as well as having its German HQ in Duisburg. duisport agency GmbH operates a daily rail connection between Duisburg and Zeebrugge with CMA CGM, and the French line is also duisport’s partner in the Antwerp Gateway container terminal.
