A good part of the increase is attributable to an increase in traffic carried by shipping line MSC. The carrier is now calling at least three times a fortnight at the terminal with larger feeder vessels, after it was guaranteed a draught of 11.5 m for its ships. Among the containerised cargo carried by MSC is a growing number of new and secondhand cars destined for Lithuania and other CIS countries.
China Shipping Container Lines has also increased its throughput, while Maersk Line has launched a reefer service carrying fruit and frozen meat from the Americas for onward distribution by rail in the Baltic region. In addition, Aarhus-based Unifeeder has joined the list of common feeders calling at KSCT. The terminal has recently taken delivery of three new Linde reachstackers to support the growth in volumes.
