Container transfers were the highest ever, with volumes of over 4.3m tonnes representing a gain of 19% on the previous year (3.6m tonnes in 2006). Barges moved around 1.6m tonnes of containers, up 12% on the previous year, while train transport showed an even bigger increase, up 23% to over 2.6m tonnes.
“Our massive investments, particularly in combined transportation and rail infrastructure, are now paying off,” said Duisburger Hafen AG’s CEO Erich Staake. “We are growing at a disproportionate rate in value-added logistics and will continue to expand our position as one of the leading logistics locations in Europe.”
