Designed for trimodal use – combining road, rail and water – the SMV reachstackers can be used to handle both containers and bulk cargo, using four slings positioned at each corner of the spreader. These particular models are configured for combined barge handling (two containers high below ground level), yard handling (three high above ground level) and road truck and rail car handling duties.
Priced at €600,000 apiece, the units boast extra-large capacity without the need for support jacks or stabilisers. They have the longest ever wheelbase, at 9,000 mm, and can stack three deep and three high in barge mode, with a 3×3 container density per row. They weigh 105 tonnes empty and 150 tonnes when loaded. Each machine is fitted with a low-emission 12-litre, 400 hp diesel engine from Scania, and features a camera positioning system in barge mode for single-driver operation.
